Your rights as a parent: You are an equal member of the IEP team. You can request a meeting at any time, ask for progress data, and request changes if progress is limited.

We primarily review IEPs, speech-language evaluations, psychoeducational evaluations, eligibility reports, and related school-based educational documents. If you're not sure whether your document is within scope, reach out before booking and we'll let you know.
No. Understand My Child provides educational and informational services only. This service does not provide legal advice, advocacy representation, therapy, diagnosis, or treatment recommendations.
No. Services are limited to document review, explanation, and parent preparation. We do not attend school meetings as a representative or advocate.
Depending on the service you choose, you'll receive a plain-language written summary of your document, highlighted key points, explanations of common terms, and a Q&A or prep call. The sample above shows what a breakdown looks like.

Yes. Documents are stored securely, used only for the purpose of providing your service, and are not shared with any third parties. Files are deleted within 30 days of service completion, unless you request otherwise in writing.
No. We do not determine or predict eligibility outcomes. Eligibility decisions are made by the appropriate school team and licensed professionals. Our role is to help you understand what the documents say — not to interpret what the school should decide.
Services are provided by Roshanali Dewji, a graduate clinician in Speech-Language Pathology at Columbia University with academic training in interpreting speech, language, psychoeducational, and IEP documentation. This service does not involve licensed clinical practice and is not affiliated with Columbia University or any school district.
